Summary:
"Any health problem, in this case a Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), is an event which interrupts, breaks into, in a radical manner, the life of a person; it is an interruption in the person’s biography which absorbs all the meanings that it had up to the moment of becoming ill. Narrative analysis permits to capture this experience from the point of view of the expert: the person who lives with BPD, who, from his or her situtation, interprets a rol and gives a meaning to the experience in his or her daily living and suffering.
The aim of this paper is to show, through narrative analysis and through the patient’s meanings, the experience of such a suffering in a 33 year-old woman, diagnosed with BPD. In this way we aim
to access to the meaning that this person gives her ideas, her beliefs, her values and her principles; as well as to enable to understand the relationship with the other, its context, history and
collectivity."
Reviewer's comments on the document:
This article stresses the importance of the narrative in the life of the patients and people whith cronicle diseases. This is a way of unraveling their own experience and of having into account all the aspects of their life in relation with their illness.
One more time the idea is that narrative helps patients and professionals by providing both significance in relation with the multiple aspects of a disease and help the patient to understand and transmit better to the rest of the world the implications of it in their life.
