This article presents an announcement made by the " Pentru voi " Foundation which will organize on 18-19 October in Timisoara Polytechnic Rector, a national conference with international participation regarding the topic of "Social services for people with severe intellectual disabilities." The event is part of the social economy - a chance for people with disabilities project, co-financed by European Social Fund Operational Programme Human Resources Development 2007-2013 - "Invest in people."
People with severe disabilities continue to be the most marginalized group. The reform in the social assistance field is an assumed priority of the Government. Nobody knows yet what the future will bring for people with severe disabilities, as the public declarations require giving up of the social status in Romania and the 2020 Europe Strategy, where social cohesion represent one of the 3 pillars of development of EU. Cost savings should not be made against people with disabilities.
Executive Director of the Foundation " Pentru voi " made a declaration stating that statistics show that Romania is on the last place in the European Union regarding the social spending per capita. It is therefore a need for dialogue between government and civil society to find ways to streamline the social system in Romania, without to condemn to isolation and poverty the people with disabilities
The event will be attended by specialists from the Netherlands and Sweden, with an extensive experience in policy and social services for adults with severe disabilities and autism, and also by Mrs. Claudia Bratan, Director of the General Directorate of Disabled Persons Protection within the Ministry of Labour, Family and Social Protection.
This conference addresses to professionals involved in social inclusion of people with severe disabilities / social economy.
