Summary:
This article presents the local policies in social assistance in Braila city which develops a series of measures aiming at combating social exclusion and promoting social inclusion, building a coherent system, with effective management, aiming at a permanent improvement of various measures of financially support for families, children, persons at risk and to strengthening and developing of social services network.
The target group consists in:
• Elderly, there are taken measures to combat the risk of social exclusion of older people and increase their quality of life.
• Children with disabilities and children with social problems, there are taken measures to combat the risk of social exclusion of children from families with social problems and children and youth with disabilities.
• Population with low incomes – there are developed objectives for development and diversification of the social services to the identified needs.
It is presented a SWOT analysis highlighting the strengths and the weaknesses. The strengths of social assistance in the city of Braila are:
• the existence of signed partnerships between institutions and organizations in the field of local and regional social issues.
• the existence of NGOs that are financed from donations or voluntary work.
• the existence of private training centers which provide training courses
• high professional potential of the local workforce to adapt to European requirements.
The weaknesses are:
• home health care services are insufficient, discontinuous and less diversified.
• the lack of residential living centers, of community support, of information, assistance and counseling for adults with disabilities, while the services provided by the authorities for this category are focused on providing social services.
• the absence of a center for young people coming from orphanages.
• the of lack of respite center for adults included in the degree of disability.
