The role of communication in relation doctor - patient - pharmacist is essential. Health and even lives of the patients depend on it. This article reviews the importance of each relationship separately, showing the benefits of a correct cooperation.
Doctor-patient relationship is the essence of the medical psychology. It is the central point of the caring relationship and it is, in most cases, one of the conditions and a major factor in the healing process. In determining the attitude that the patient has towards the doctor and the medical act, a great importance is the first contact with the doctor, the way in which the first medical consultation goes. Communication in this relationship is essential and it must be sincere. Direct interpersonal communication is the most effective because it has a great emotional load.
Pharmacist - patient relationship must be one of collaboration. Both are making an exchange of information and mutual trust is essential. On the one hand, the patient must trust the professional pharmacist to accept any change of medication and the pharmacist must trust in the patient information on symptoms, medical tests done and the recommendation of the doctor. Counseling is one of the main tasks of the pharmacist. He tells the patient how he should take the drugs, the interactions between drugs, what results he should get and what side effects might occur. Counseling must be done with a language appropriate for the patient's awareness and they must avoid specific terms.
Doctor - pharmacist relationship is established through prescriptions, medical ordinance, forensic document which represents the written recommendation of a doctor, including drugs to be administered to treat the patient. Doctor and pharmacist must communicate frequently, to have a real working relationship, so the patient does not have to suffer.
Doctor - pharmacist - patient relationship becomes truly functional as all these "actors" involved in the health system interact basing on trust and knowledge.
