“Parents Pedagogy”, the development of family skills and educational knowledge, was born in Turin after some activities showing citizens’ protagonism involved in some functions such mental health social workers, in a perspective of reciprocity which is fed by the challenge of interpersonal relationships. Some principles come from the conventions of the Popular Therapeutic Activities practice, born in Modena and performed in Turin since 1978. Within these practices parents took the floor and witnessed their educational pathways, became protagonists, active citizens and first experts of their children. Since 1995, when principles and Methodology Parents Pedagogy were formalized, this fertile process allowed within schools the employment of parents as trainers.
This methodology spread at a national and international level, concurring to train professionals dealing with human relationships: teachers, trainers, physicians, judges, social workers etc…

School institutions, Local health authorities, and local authorities chose Methodology Parents Pedagogy to train their own health operators and for social aggregation initiatives.

Parents Pedagogy stresses on family as a fundamental and irreplaceable element for training. The role that often is attributed to the family is a weak and passive one, leading to delegate to the so-called professionals. Family owns skills and resources that have to be recognised from other educational agencies.

Methodology stresses on the dignity of the parents’ pedagogical action as educational experts, through initiatives aiming at the promotion of knowledge and Parents Pedagogy spreading of it. It is realized through the following actions:
Gathering, publication and spread of the stories about parents educational pathways;
Training from parents, professionals and experts dealing with human relationships (teachers, physicians, trainers, judges, social workers etc…)

Introduction of the scientific principles concerning Parents Pedagogy through research, studies, meetings and seminars.
Parents Pedagogy expresses through:
-pedagogy of responsibility: family carries out education tasks and answers to the world about it;
-pedagogy of identity: parents’ love allows developing the awareness that enables the individual to recognize himself;
-pedagogy of hope: parents’ hope is the core of the project of life, of the consider me as an adult;
-pedagogy of trust: the trust of the family support and make rising the children’s potentiality;
-pedagogy of growth: parents are actors and witnesses of the growing path of their child.

Parents Pedagogy offer an educational path between school and health care, which is promoted by local authorities in which parents accept an active role thanks to the recognition of their competences.
