Since I got married, we have had problems in having children. After many visits and surveys with interventions, I found out I had endometriosis and I would never be able to have children. As it usually happens, I considered my existence useless, after that verdict which, moreover, was given with a disarming coldness. But the desire to give a meaning to our life has given us the enthusiasm to go forward, especially when, among the various doctors I have met, one, in particular, has allowed me to examine what I was going through, because, at my request, he has given me the opportunity, among others, to talk with other couples who have been affected by the same problem, or, better said, our tragedy. The fear, but, at the same time, the possibility to share it with others, has given me a great strength, first of all, not to put my disease in the first place, but to put me, my ego, in the first place, as a patient, with a disease such as infertility. I have learnt to accept this reality, in order to find a solution, or a thousand solutions. The fears of the others’ stories have strengthened me, putting me back into the picture as in a game of chess. It has been through that encounter between crazed pawns on the chessboard, that I have found again the serenity necessary to put everything in place and win that game. Treatment has given me strength for the realization of my dream. Only one person has paid attention to my life as a person, not as a patient. I have won my game, and it is called Mariangela.
