My experience was with A., a patient with Locked in syndrome, who lives in the clinic where I work as psychologist. I learnt a lot from him and his family, building a relationship, based on trust and hope, day by day. At the beginning of my work with him, I tried to communicate with his eyes, the only part of the body he can move. Then we used tables of alternative communication and, after a lot of work, we succeeded in having a computer, which he can use only with the movement of his eyes. It was a great possibility, we worked hard and a lot in this adventure, because both he and I were not able to use it. We obtained few results, it was a pity in a sense because he still cannot communicate well. He can only say yes or no with his eyes. But there were too many difficulties in using that modern instrument. I learnt a lot from this experience and from A.: because, although you may think there is no hope (he stayed in a bed for 3 years before we met, because nobody ever tried to do anything with him!), you must believe and do, do, do everything you can. The results are not as important as being in relation.
